Feature flags become technical debt on a schedule
Every flag starts as a safety switch and ends as a branch nobody dares delete.
The pattern is predictable. A flag ships with an owner and a removal date. Six months later the owner has changed teams and the date has passed.
Static analysis can find flags that are always on, but it cannot find the ones that are on for every customer except one large account.
The fix is organisational: treat flag removal as part of the launch, not as cleanup work for later.
