Inside the repair shop that refuses to throw anything away
A visit to a workshop where 1990s motherboards are still being reflowed for paying customers.
The shop runs on a single reflow oven, two benches, and a wall of labelled drawers going back to 1994. Most work is capacitor replacement on boards nobody else will touch.
The economics are strange and stable. Customers are not nostalgic — they are running equipment that still does its job and cannot be replaced.
What is striking is the documentation. Every repair is logged by hand, including the failures.
